Do you have a story and photo you would like to share about your DPR adopted pup or dog?  We're looking for some laughs, maybe some tears, how they have changed your life, how they have touched your heart.  We will post your photo and story on our home page to share with all of our visitors.  Maybe, just maybe, you'll inspire someone to share their life with a homeless dog.

  DelMar Puppy Rescue

Delmar Puppy Rescue (DMPR), the Maryland division of Delaware Puppy Rescue focuses on the rescue and fostering of pregnant females and mother's with new litters that have been turned in to shelters or found on the streets.  We also rescue litters of puppies turned in by owners that are scheduled to be destroyed.

We are headquartered in Berlin, MD with fostering homes in DE, NJ and PA and a sister organization in Hockessin, DE.  We are a non-profit organization in the process of acquiring our 501(c) status.

DMPR works closely with the Delaware Stanton SPCA and Delaware Humane Society in our mutual goal of saving more lives.  We also work with County Dog Pounds throughout the East and South East Coasts that have little more than outside kennels that store unwanted pets until their 72 hours are up and they are taken to the gas chambers.  Many of these pounds have drop box's where people can conviently drive by, dump their pet in a large box and drive away.

Most pregnant females turned in to shelters have little hope of being adopted or making it out of the shelters.  Puppies under the age of eight weeks have little hope of surviving in a shelter environment due to their immature immune systems, young age and lack of survival skills.  DMPR has created a group of volunteers over the past year and a half that are willing to take in these mothers and/or pups into our homes to care for them, provide medical support, socialization in a family environment  and evaluation of temperment for placement to approved adopters.

Our medical costs well exceed our intake from adoption fee's.  One litter of sick puppies can run into thousands of dollars.  Virus's are merciless to young pups in the shelter environment.  Our greatest challenge is the agony of  losing a pup that we have grown to love as our own.

DMPR adopts only to approved applicants with a signed contract.  All pets must be altered or scheduled for alteration.

We are available to all of our adopting families 24/7 for any questions or concerns that may come up once they have taken their new family member home. All of our pets are up to date on shots and have been examined by a veterinarian for a clean bill of health.  DMPR makes every effort to ensure that each puppy and dog is in excellent health.  Puppies are similar to babies and can very easily develop various puppy ailments.  DMPR quarantines all puppies a minimum of 14 days prior to releasing for adoption.   If any puppy develops an ailment within 5 days of adoption, we ask for the puppy/dog to be returned so that proper medical treatment can be administered.   We want the best life for our dogs and puppies and do everything in our power to ensure they live a long and happy life.
